Validate Sources Of Information

When conducting research and/or communicating information, it’s important to ensure that the information is accurate in order to prevent the spreading of false information, which could potentially be dangerous. Just because you find something at a library or read it on the internet does not necessarily mean that it’s true.

There are numerous things that you can do to help ensure that information is accurate. Here are a few tips:

  • Use trustworthy sources.
    • How legitimate is the author?
    • How legitimate is the publisher?
  • Check for recency.
    • Outdated information may no longer be accurate. It could have been disproven by evidence that is more recent.
      • Time?
      • Date?
      • Place of origin?
      • Do other reliable sources of information provide the same findings?
